This exercise utilizes the data set factor.sav (linked in Resources), questionnaire data (inventory) of 44 items from the BSRI. Using Factor Analysis, with Varimax rotation, estimate the appropriate number of factors using the guidelines below:
1. Write a research question to be addressed by this analysis.
2. Assess the eigenvalue criteria. How many components are retained and why?
3. What is the total variability explained by the model, and how did you determine it?
4. Assess the Scree plot. At what component does the plot begin to level off?
5. Assess the residuals. How many residuals exceed the 0.05 criterion.
6. Using the four criteria, what is the best number of components that can be retained in this analysis?
7. Summarize the components generated by narrating the variables loaded into each component, the strength and direction of loadings, and the percentage variance.
8. Write up the results using APA sixth edition format in four pages maximum, including all tables and figures. Submit the paper to this assignment.
